CARAVAL BOOK REVIEW!!

CARAVAL BY STEPHANIE GARBER BOOK REVIEW:

SYNOPSIS:

Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Welcome, welcome to Caraval—Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

MY THOUGHTS:

This was a very highly anticipated read for me as I heard so many things about it and the synopsis really had me hooked from the beginning too.

This book was a very unique one for me, I myself have never read ‘The Night Circus’ to be able to compare it to that, but I still found that the world was very unique and the plot was very interesting and new.

As a debut author, I found this book to have a beautifully crafted world and a very flowing and lovely writing style that I absolutely adored! I would never have personally guessed that this book was a debut as the writing was very well established and feels as though the author has written many stories before. I found myself addicted to the writing, so much so that I ended up staying up wayyyy past my bed time to read more.

The relationship between the two sisters, Scarlett and Donatella (addressed as Tella). The sisters made the story for me as it represented family while is something that isn’t evident as much as I would like it to be in YA these days and it was really great to read about the two sisters.

Overall, I found Caraval to be very unique, fast paced and full of twists and turns. This book would be perfect for those looking for a good book that keeps you on your toes and also grips you in so that you can’t put the book down.

STAR RATING: 4.5/5 STARS
